Our Mission

Jesus left very clear instructions to his followers when he was taken into heaven: go forth and spread the gospel, baptizing believers in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He also commanded his followers to meet regularly for strength and community and to encourage one another as we live our lives by example, word, and deed.

We at St. Paul's believe that by establishing a vibrant Christian community in Kuwait, we are able to carry on Jesus' vision for his church.  Through our worship services and celebration of the Eucharist, we joyfully carry on Jesus' work by living Christ-centred, spiritually-active lives which, in turn, empower us to perform our "prime mandate," to spread the gospel.

Our Faith

Christianity is a world-wide faith of people who follow Jesus Christ.  Its millions of members express their beliefs through a wide variety of “denominations” and styles of worship. But they all follow Jesus of Nazareth who was born about 2000 years ago in Palestine. Christians believe he is at the same time God as well as the Son of God.  In other words Jesus who is also God came to earth in the form of a man.

We believe in one God.  We also believe that the one God manifests Himself in three entities - God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit.  Try thinking of an egg which is also made in three parts; the shell, the yolk and the egg white.  It is still one egg.  It is a challenge for humans to comprehend this but God is not limited to the same physical and spiritual expression humans are limited to.

Jesus started traveling around the region when he was about 30 and attracted a sizeable following with his preaching and miracles. The faith based on his life and teaching is a faith of love, peace, forgiveness and truth.

He took the Old Testament commandments of God, written down by Moses and followed by the Jews then and now and in essence He interpreted them very simply in two basic commandments:

1. Love God

2. Love your neighbour as yourself

About three years after he started preaching he was arrested and executed by the Roman authorities who controlled the region at the time. Christians believe that on the third day he came back to life and after spending some time with his followers went back to heaven.  He is alive today and reigns now and forever.

Nobody pretends we Christians are perfect. But we believe that God gave us our lives and our faith and we try to respond with love and worship and service.

Our Creed

Our faith is expressed through the words of the Nicene Creed:

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father.
With the Father and the Son
he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic
and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.

Amen.
