Leadership Course The Lay Reader Course for the Anglican Church is designed to train lay people within the church to lead worship. The course usually lasts anywhere from a year to two years and is a fairly comprehensive theological and spiritual course. The course covers such things Biblical knowledge, sacramental understanding of Baptism and the Eucharist, “how to” of leading worship, spiritual life, leading small groups, conflict resolution and more. There are approximately 52 different lessons. The Lay Reader course while primarily designed for people desiring to become Lay Readers in the Church of England and can be an enriching experience for anyone desiring to know more about theological and spiritual life within the church. The course is open to anyone at St. Paul’s who is interested in “Leadership” within the church. If you feel called into a Lay Reader position within the church you will have to do all assignments. You will also be interviewed by Rev. Andy since he is over the Lay Reader in the Cyprus and the Gulf Diocese. Not everyone in who attends the course will feel called to a Lay Reader position, and that is fine. Remember, just attending the leadership course can be an enriching experience. If you desire to become a part of this group you must make a commitment to attend the majority of the courses which will be held on Monday evenings at Alan and Sandy Dempster’s home in Salmiya Block 3 from 6pm to 8pm. (click here for map) The first half hour is reserved for a small meal and fellowship. Lessons will begin promptly and 6:30pm and we will do our best to conclude the evening at 8pm sharp. For questions regarding the course or to sign up please contact Rev. Renee Perkins on 65894536.
